4 Clear Signs of an Inefficient HVAC System
People in Oak Forest, Illinois, rely upon their HVAC system to keep them warm in the winter. But many don’t realize that their system isn’t running at its best. Here are four clear signs of an inefficient HVAC system:
Your Bills Are Too High
Perhaps the most obvious sign that your system isn’t as efficient as possible is high utility bills. When your system has to work harder, it uses more energy, which results in higher bills. If you note that your heating costs this winter have suddenly taken a spike, it could be due to your system needing service or even replacement.
Your Thermostat Reads Wrong
If your thermostat sensor is bad, your system won’t run at peak performance. If the internal temperature reads where you set it but something feels off, or if you have a separate thermometer that reads a different temperature than the thermostat, you might need a repair or replacement. Our service technicians can help.
Your House Seems Far Too Humid
Your HVAC system should work both to heat your house and control the humidity indoors. In the winter, the heating system dries the air using the heat from the system and then blows the dry air through the vents. If the air coming out of your vents seems like it’s soupy and moist even though you don’t have a humidifier in your system, there’s likely an efficiency problem that needs addressing.
Your Air Filter Needs Changing
When was the last time you changed your air filter? You should swap it out at least every three months. Doing so at the change of seasons is normally a good schedule and can serve as a reminder. A dirty air filter results in your system needing to work harder just to do its basic job.
